New Coach Hire - Announcement

ROW Communications

Hello Region of Waterloo Swim Club,

With a new season on the horizon, it brings me great excitement to announce two new group coaches to our ROW Coaching Staff - Tyson MacDonlad and Russ Franklin.

Russ Franklin

Russ Franklin joins us in his 51st year of coaching. Approximately 30 of those years were spent working as a head coach, filled with numerous success stories including Provincial and National Medalists, having worked with athletes going on to represent Canada at international competitions, including the Olympics.

Russ will be accompanied by his wealth of knowledge and passion for the development of athletes as both swimmers and people. He is looking forward to the prospect of helping our Provincial Development 2 athletes continue to build on their foundation, which will last them through their swim careers and beyond.

We are incredibly fortunate to be able to add the experience of Russ to our coaching staff, making ROW one of the most experienced staffs in the entire province. Both his ability to coach and his knowledge to mentor are assets we won’t take for granted.

Tyson MacDonald

This is Tyson MacDonalds’ second consecutive year working at ROW, however in a larger capacity. He has just wrapped up his swimming career, having competed for ROW and represented Canada in several international competitions - most recently at the 2023 Para Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile where he earned 3 medals.

Since attending Wilfrid Laurier University [2015/2016 - 2019/2020], Tyson has demonstrated tremendous love, knowledge, and passion for both the sport of swimming and the Region of Waterloo Swim Club. We look forward to him stepping into the Senior Development coaching role, where he can pass his expertise onto the next generation of ROW athletes.

Please join me in welcoming our two new coaching staff, who will help ROW continue to grow into the future.
