ROW Team Spirit: OYJ/Festival Meet Highlights

ROW is especially proud of our swimmers who raced in championship meets OYJs and Festivals last weekend!

 

This year's Festival championship meet was incredibly full and busy. Our 12, 11, and 10 & under swimmers were especially full of energy as they raced at the Etobicoke Olympium over the course of 3 days. The Festival's championship put a spotlight on our 12&U athletes, who have made tremendous progress from the beginning of the season until now. Their hardwork and determination throughout the season showed through the results this meet!

 

Meet Logistics & Format:

• 11-12yr olds AM + distance overflow session midday + 10&U afternoon/evening
• 23 athletes: Cole B, Miran D, Abigail F, Harry F, Tommy F, Alex GF, Nora H, Athena L, Eliza L, Benton M, Wellington M, Natalia M, Zade M, Stella N, Finn O, Nora R, Chris R, Olivia S, Leo S, Nikkolai T, Kellen V, Edan W, Ethan W
• 4x50 gendered relays (medley and free) + 4x50 mixed gendered free relay
• Notably, this is the last time this meet will take place due to the format change next season.

• Combined Gender: While 5 teams shared a tight battle between 5th and 9th for the majority of the meet, ROW finished ultimately on top at 5th place.
• 5th consecutive top-10 team performance
• Top 12&U athletes in the province

Meanwhile, our 13&U, 14, 15, 16-18 swimmers raced at the OYJ's championship meet at the Markham Pan AM facility hosted by Peterborough Swim Club. OYJ's was a 4-day meet with a bizarre dynamic for the 13 &U age group, with a 14&U OSC dequal for boys and a 13&U OSC dequal for girls and splitting some of the 12&U athletes between the two meets.

• Morning preliminary swims with evening finals
• 16 athletes: Megan B, Aris C, Kentaro D, Xavier H, Sebastian H, Joseph L, Nathan L, Edward N, Devin PW, Aerowyn R, Beckett S, Lulu S, Geneva S, Michael T, Nathan W, Nic W
• Notably, this is the last time this meet will take place due to the format change next season.

 

 

ROW swimmers have taken responsibility for their own performances, managing preparation protocols independently and have shown tremendous growth from Winter OYJs to Spring OYJs. At the end of an especially strong and intensive season, ROW maintained positive and competitive attitudes through the meet, working past personal struggles and barriers to keep their eyes on their goals as the meet progressed. Despite a slow start, ROW quickly bounced back and steadily climbed the rankings from day 1 to day 4, finally achieving a team score of 13th (combined Gender) overall!

• 13&U Boys 100m Breast featuring Nic W, Beckett S, Sebastian H
• Nic W 2nd (OSC qualifying time), Beckett S 5th (OSC qualifying time), Sebastian H 6th (.03 outside OSC qualifying time)
• These three swimmers have been on each other’s tails all season! Kudos to these 3 for continuing to put on a phenomenal show in the 100/200breast, this was another amazing race!!

 

• 15&O Boys racing relays back-to-back – 4x50 Medley directly into 4x200 Free!

ROW stood up as a team, challenging both their personal bests and the biggest clubs in the province! Through the hard work and challenges faced, our swimmers were able to grow and develop an understanding and appreciation for the sport of competitive swimming.
