Great team showing at WOSA!

ROW Communications
This past weekend, ROW took a trip to the Canada Games Aquatics Center in London, where our swimmers competed in their third championship meet of the winter competition window – The Western Region Winter Championships!

This meet hosts 27 clubs from South-Western Ontario and is typically a very high-spirited, high-energy competition due to the number of athletes representing each club – Winter 2024 was no different. Although the format of the meet was relatively on par with past Regional Championships, there were a few minor changes:
  • 13&O de-qualification times changed from OYJs to OSCs, 12&U remained the same
  • No longer able to qualify in stroke 50s (back, breast, fly) – only swum as bonus
  • 1 qualification time allows an athlete to compete in up to 9 total events – most will typically swim 6-8 races to manage the race load.

With these changes, it’s hard to know what capacity clubs will choose to compete in – particularly given the SCM format sandwiched between two large LCM meets – OYJs and
OSCs. In the end, the competition maintained its high-energy WOSA feel and ROW was very much a part of that!

ROW placed 5th in the overall standings with 44 individual medals, 3 relay medals, 3 new provincial qualifiers and 203 Personal Bests! In a push to improve our athlete’s engagement in the race preparation process, Coach Ron was very proud of our seniors for taking the initiative to work through activations and warm-ups together while performing purposefully and intentionally. The engagement of our athletes from beginning to end of each session was seen in their results.

New qualifiers:
· Benton M – Festivals – 10&U Boys 100 Breast
· Aerowyn R – OYJs – 17/18 Girls 100 Breast
· Joseph L – OSCs – 15 Boys – 50 Free
