Remarkable performance for ROW at the NYAC Cup

Last weekend, 40 ROW swimmers from PD2, PD1 and ND and their families took to the 401 to attend the North York Aquatic Club (NYAC) Cup at TPASC, “Canada’s Fastest Pool”. This was their first 3-day meet of the season featuring preliminary heats and finals for 13 and over swimmers.

The TLDR: when all points were added up, ROW placed 3rd out of 21 clubs, behind only NYAC and TSC, two GTA teams with several times as many participants! 

Our athletes did a great job at preparing and adapting throughout the weekend, learning from feedback and mistakes and getting better. The team as a whole had a great technical, mental and even strategic approach to racing. The coaches appreciated not just the great performances, but also the bonding across groups that took place, with several younger athletes coming early each day to watch the older athletes race, and vice-versa!

Fun fact: AJ’s parents came to TPASC to watch the team in action during the Sunday afternoon session, and were reportedly very pleased with what they saw, in and out of the pool :) 

Here are some of the meet highlights:

• Medal Count: 13 Gold, 23 Silver, 17 Bronze! Medalists were Cole B, Nikkolai T, Chris R, Ethan W, Alex GF, Stella N, Athena L, Sophie R, Patrick L, Sunny X, Devin PW, Ben R, Joseph L, Lucas LB, Le Anne D.

• Personal Bests, defined as improving best SCM and LCM converted times: 196!

• New Qualifications:

  • Nathan L qualified for OYJs in 200 Breast

  • Alex GF qualified for Festivals in 200 Free, 200 IM, 100 Back!

  • Nora H qualified for Festivals in 200 Breast

  • Stella N qualified for Festivals in 50 Free

• There was also a new Club Record, by Sunny X in 13/14 Girls 1500m SCM
