Great performance for ROW Swimmers at the BAC short-course invitational in Brantford

ROW Communications

Last week 60 of our swimmers from SD, AGD, RSA Comp and JD1 took part in BAC’s SC Invitational at the Wayne Gretzky Arena in Brantford. With over 95% personal bests (PBs) achieved, it was a great experience for all participants individually, but also as a group. According to the coaches, there was a lot of mingling amongst teammates across different groups, allowing for more club cohesion.

The meet had a relatively unconventional format, with 13& overs swimming on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, while 12& unders swimming Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, with all sessions being timed finals. However the unusual timing of the sessions was not a problem for our athletes.

ROW athletes got their first taste of relays for the season creating an additional team bonding element to the weekend. We were also 1 of 2 clubs that did team cheers to start off every session with high energy and team spirit. Swimmers participated in a number of new events for their experience level, working with new distances or strokes resulting in individual growth and new goals for the future.

In the end, there were many top 8 finishes and many swimmers crushed their best short-course times from last season, showing clear evidence of competitive progress. Here are just some of the highlights from the BAC event:

  • there were 282 personal bests (!), 13 first place finishes, 7 second place and 5 third place finishes.

  • We had some new qualifiers, as follows: Sebastian H. qualified for OYJ in 100 breast, Natalia M. qualified for Festivals in 50 free, Eliza L. qualified for Festivals in 50 free

Way to go swimmers!
