ROW Communications

The Region of Waterloo Swim Club is very pleased to welcome Ron Forrest as our new Provincial Development 1 and WLU Varsity Associate coach for the upcoming season. Ron has over 25 years of coaching experience working with swimmers who have raced at all levels of competition including the World Championships and the Olympic Games. Most recently, Ron was the Head Coach and Program Director of the Fort Worth Area Swim Team (FAST), where he coached for more than two decades.

Fun Fact: Ron swam for the Region of Waterloo Swim Club in the 1980s!

Ron started his swimming career at ROW, where he swam under the guidance of coach Dean Boles. He later swam for the varsity team at Texas Christian University, while completing a degree in General Studies/Psychology. As a Canadian age-group swimmer, and then a college-level athlete in the US, Ron has had many accomplishments, including: 2-time Canadian National Age Group Record Holder, Canadian National Championships Finalist, Canadian Olympic Trials Qualifier, FINA World Cup Finalist and many more.

Ron’s coaching career so far has been equally impressive. During his time as an age-group coach and then an elite-level Head Coach, Ron has produced a great number of swimmers who went on to qualify for all major national and international swimming competitions. He coached an Olympic Gold medallist (Dana Vollmer, USA), another Olympic Qualifier and World Record Holder (Camilo Becerra, Colombia), 1 para-swimming World Record Holder, numerous Pan-American and Commonwealth Games competitors, NCAA medallists and many other qualifiers and medallists at state and national levels in various age groups. He was named Texas Swimming Senior Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004 for his role in developing International talent.

Ron is looking forward to returning to ROW and will be coaching the Provincial Development 1 group this season, along with assisting with the WLU Varsity team.

Welcome back to the ROW family, Ron!
