2022 Ontario Summer Festivals and 2022 Ontario Youth Juniors notes

ROW Communications

Dear ROW Families:

As many of you know, several of our groups attended two provincial-level championship meets over the weekend: the 2022 Summer Festivals in Etobicoke for 13 and under swimmers and the Ontario Youth Junior Championships in Markham for senior swimmers. ROW athletes have had exceptional success in these competitions, as you can see below.

At Festivals, ROW swimmers earned many personal bests and 14 medals (6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) and scored enough points to place 5th out of 53 clubs! This is a level of performance that our club has not seen in over two decades and we are happy to warmly congratulate all swimmers and their coaches.

The Festival medalists include Nic Wei, Beckett Shannon, Aris Chan, Sophie Rus, Olivia Guo.

Notable achievements include: Nic Wei medaling in all 7 races he swam, and Aris Chan qualifying for an OYJ standard while at Festivals. Congratulations Nic and Aris!

At the Ontario Youth Juniors (OYJs), ROW swimmers also did exceptionally well, with several top 10 finalists:

Sunny Xu (100, 200 fly, 100, 200 back and 200 IM), Joseph Lee (200 free, 100 fly, 400 free, 800 free), Olivia Jain (200 fly), Lucas Lloyd-Bee (200 fly), Allison Newell (800 and 1500 free), Ariel Chan (200 fly), Alex Rus (200 fly), and the girls 14& under relay (Geneva Silva, Olivia Jain, Allison Newell, Sunny Xu)

Most notably for the OYJs: Sunny Xu was a silver medalist in 100 fly and a gold medalist in 200 fly and she qualified for Canadian Junior Championships held in Montreal at the end of July. Congratulations Sunny!

We are extremely proud of all the hard work and dedication that went into this level of athletic performance from all of these swimmers and their coaches: AJ, Carly, Cathy, Kaitlyn and Matty! Special thanks go to coaches AJ and Carly who also coached our swimmers on deck at the OYJs and Festivals, respectively. We are sure the long weekend spent on deck was made worthwhile by these outstanding performances!

Once again, heartfelt congratulations to all our swimmers, and we look forward to building on these successes in the coming seasons!
